Anterior ankle impingement-MRI

18-year-old soccer player with anterior ankle impingement. Sagittal T1-weighted image shows spurs projecting from dorsal talar neck  and from anterior distal tibia. Anterior ankle impingement syndrome is a common cause of chronic ankle pain, especially in ballet dancers and soccer players. Osseous outgrowths at the anterior ankle joint, which are at times asymptomatic, represent a major pathologic component of this impingement syndrome, but soft-tissue impingement due to hypertrophied synovium also occurs.
