Patient involvement key to reducing Diagnostic Errors

 In a report by National Academy of Sciences, tilted "Improving Diagnosis in Health Care" , authors discuss the value of diagnosis and problem of medial errors and recommend patient involvement as the key to reducing diagnostic errors.

Getting the right diagnosis is a key aspect of health care: It provides an explanation of a patient’s health problem and informs subsequent health care decisions. Diagnostic errors persist throughout all settings of care and continue to harm an unacceptable number of patients. 


Health care professionals and organizations should partner with patients and their families as diagnostic team members and facilitate patient and family engagement in the diagnostic process, aligned with their needs, values, and preferences
