Fish Vertebrae-Story Behind the Term

In an article in August 2013, Radiology, by Murphy et al, authors look for origin of the term fish vertebrae. They say : "for many decades, the appropriate term for describing a biconcave configuration of thoracic and lumbar vertebral bodies in instances of severe bone demineralization has been controversial. In 1982, Donald Resnick reported that the precise origin of the term fish vertebra is frequently debated. He pointed out that biconcave vertebral bodies might be thought to resemble a fish, a fish mouth, or a fish vertebra. He believed that because a radiograph of a fish vertebral column showed a series of biconcave vertebrae, the term fish vertebra was logical." 

I didnt know this for entire of my medical school. Great information indeed.
